Why Baccarat is So Popular in China

January 29th, 2008

Baccarat is so popular in China because it’s the preferred game of the Asian high roller. Gambling has been a part of the Asian culture for thousands of years. It’s included in everyday life and Asian celebrations. Now that China has opened up and new wealth is being created at large rate, Asians are spending their disposable income on the baccarat tables. If you want to appear to be somebody in an Asian casino, baccarat is the game that you will want to be playing.

It is so popular that Macau has grown beyond Las Vegas. The former Portuguese colony is the only legal gambling resort in China, and offers baccarat at a wide variety of stakes. Las Vegas is already making adjustments so some of that Asian gaming money will come over State-side. Baccarat pits and Asian-inspired themes are popping up all over Vegas, and Chinese gamers are responding.

Top 5 Baccarat Tips

January 24th, 2008

Baccarat is a casino card game based on luck. There are no systems to help you predict or calculate the odds of winning. That being said here are some tips to help you win:

1. Search for a baccarat table that uses the least amount of card decks.

2. Do not avoid bets on the Bank. Despite what you may be told, the odds will work for you.

3. Play with a bankroll that you are wiling to lose.

4. Before choosing your table observe how the people play at the table. Find a table with less skilled players.

5. Avoid playing at high roller tables right off the bat. Get a feel for the table and players at a mini table first.

Online Baccarat: What Not to Do

January 22nd, 2008

What Not to Do

Online baccarat is just like regular land-based baccarat – the game is very simple to play. There is not a lot of strategy around the game, although some claim that there is a card counting system called the Predictor System that can beat the casino. Until it’s proven to work, I’m going to stick to what I know.

That includes staying away from the tie bet. It pays 8 to 1 but has a 14.36% edge going to the house in an eight-deck shoe. That’s not a good bet, and I can’t think of any situation where it would be wise to make. Even in a game that offers 9 to 1, the house edge is still large. Also, don’t forget that you owe 5% on all banker bet wins, payable when you leave the table. And don’t bet exclusively on the player, that gives the house an edge.

Trump’s Taj Mahal Features New Baccarat Pit and More

The high rollers of Northeastern U.S. cities like New York, Philadelphia and Washington have a new room in which to play high stakes in Atlantic City. The Trump Taj Mahal has opened an upscale baccarat pit and gaming parlor. I say parlor because the room has dealers in tuxedos and elegant surroundings. The Taj Mahal used Monte Carlo-inspired themes to create a room that would make a prince feel at home.

Limits are high ranging from $100 minimum to a $6000 maximum. There are 30 tables in the room, with action for blackjack, baccarat, craps and roulette. The average player in this parlor will have a bankroll of $200,000 to $500,000 to play with, and some will come in with as much as $2M.

The new room is the latest in the casino’s improvements, following last summers renovation of the penthouse suites into a posh setting for its high rollers.

When the Going Gets Tough, Vegas Still Wins

Vegas always wins. It doesn’t matter what the circumstances may be, Vegas will always continue to grow. When the economy is doing well people will always look to dump a little dough on a trip to Sin City. We might accept the fact that we’re going to lose more than we’ll win, but we can’t wait to get there again. All games are set to make money for the house.

Even the rare genius who comes up with a method to temporarily beat the house makes money for the casinos. All the stories of the MIT blackjack group, and the other famous house beaters, only increase the folklore and appeal of the casinos.

High rollers don’t have a better place to be a big shot than Vegas. With all the attractions and celebrities, anyone with money heads there to play. Even after lavish comps, Vegas will always come out on top at the tables.
